Drum & Pail Options

There are different drum & pail options available.  The list below represents common options associated with Drums and Pails, however, not all options may be applicable on all products and minimums may apply. Please contact C.L. Smith for assistance.

Lining Options

Steel Drum

Phenolics

Phenolic linings are the least flexible and are suited for agricultural chemicals, flavors and fragrances, strong acids and strong solvents. Phenolic linings are available in Clear/Gold non-pigmented, Tan/Red pigmented, and Olive Drab (OD) pigmented formulas.

Epoxy Modified Phenolics

Epoxy Modified Phenolics are more flexible and are suited for acidic and alkaline products in water, and moderately strong solvents. The epoxy modified phenolic formula is brown in color.

Epoxy Phenolics

The Epoxy Phenolic linings are the most flexible. They are suited for mild solvents and acids in water, alkaline products in water, detergents, and surfactants, and food products. The epoxy phenolic linings are buff/tan in color.

Unlined Drums

Nitrogen is injected into the unlined drums which displace “moist” ambient air to help prevent rusting.

Fibre Drum

• Heavy-Duty Polyethylene
• Aluminum Polyethylene
• Light Duty Polyethylene, Mylar (Polyester)

Steel Pails

• Red-BrownThe red-brown is a pigmented, phenolic material. This liner is suitable for a wide range of products containing strong acids, strong solvents, and insecticides.
• GoldThe gold enamel is a non-pigmented, phenolic material. It is typically, applied at a lower film weight compared to the red-brown enamel. It can be used with the same products as the red-brown; however, due to the film’s weight, the red-brown provides longer shelf life.
• BuffThe buff is a pigmented, epoxy-phenolic material. It is used when film flexibility is required. This liner used for products containing mild acids or that are highly alkaline.
• Rust Inhibitor (RI)The RI Coating is a non-pigmented (clear) material that is applied at a low weight. Its purpose is to provide a short term (up to 3 months) protection, allowing the container to be warehoused and transported to the filler without rusting. The RI material is used with products that do not react with the pail’s substrate and do not require a lining.

Economy

Fibre body with easy open/close cover (metal or plastic) with clips.
